Have You Met Your Inner Critic?

Most of us are well aware of the voice inside our head that is relentlessly criticizing our every move. You know, the one that can always find fault or worry in whatever may be going on at the moment. As humans, one thing we cannot escape is our thoughts. Our thoughts are so very powerful! Thoughts are energy, and thoughts become the things and events in our lives. We create our life based on our thoughts. 

We think between 60-80 thousand thoughts per day. That’s a lot of activity! But did you know that only about 5% of those thoughts are unique. The rest of them are simply repeating thoughts, things that we rehash over and over again. Certainly not very useful. And even more disturbing is the fact that 80% of our thoughts slant toward the negative. Yep, we are wired by design to look for the negative in situations. Our brains have evolved from those early days, when we roamed the earth in search of food, battling the elements to assure our survival. We had to go negative and assume we were in danger at every moment just to protect ourselves. But in today’s world this thinking is not necessary, and can even be harmful to your health.

We know that negative thinking is not good for us. It feeds our worry, fears, stress, anxiety, and sometimes even paranoia, creating negative emotions that can affect how we feel about ourselves, our work, our relationships and life in general. Improving the quality of our thoughts is paramount to relieving stress and improving our sense of well-being. 

How can we improve our thoughts? Become an observer, a hyper-vigilant observer of what you are thinking. When you find yourself spiraling down the rabbit hole of negativity, intervene! Notice what you are thinking and ask yourself if this thought process is serving you. If not, reach for the next best thought. Turn your attention to gratitude, notice the things that are going right in your life instead of focusing on the negative. Once you condition yourself to this process of  “thought intervention,” you will begin to notice small changes in your demeanor and attitude that will lead to BIG changes over time.

Burn Out

Is your to-do list too long? Do you find yourself exhausted by the end of the day? In our fast-paced society many people are feeling stressed and out of balance. Constant stress is like a dangerous toxin that wreaks havoc in your body. Fatigue, brain fog, a compromised immune system, slower metabolism, digestive problems, and elevated blood pressure are just some of the problems caused by stress.  Check in with your body . . . do you have tension in your shoulders? Tightness in your chest? A knot in your stomach? These are important messages from your body that should not be ignored. Pay close attention to these signals, as they often are a wake up call, a plea to make life adjustments and bring more balance and harmony into your busy life.

Mindfulness practices like yoga, qi gong, and meditation, as well as energy techniques like EFT and Reiki can help restore balance to your overtaxed system.  Recognizing and addressing these imbalances as they arise will help you maintain your health and sense of wellbeing. If your life circumstances have you overstressed and tense, or if you’re frustrated by symptoms that your doctor can’t explain, it may be time to approach healing from an energetic level. Energy techniques relax the body and calm your nervous system, allowing the body to heal itself naturally.


EFT and Reiki; a Powerful Combination

I am excited to be joining forces with Reiki Master Angel Salat to offer an introduction to two of the most effective holistic healing modalities; Reiki and EFT. These powerful modalities help you uncover subconscious blocks and imbalances, release self-limiting beliefs and tap into deep healing. Like Reiki, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or "Tapping" is a mind-body approach for mental and emotional transformation, utilizing the energy system of the body to facilitate profound changes in the way you think and feel. It is sometimes referred to as psychological acupuncture, but without the needles. The main tenet of EFT is that every negative emotion is caused by a disruption in the electric system of the body. By addressing the disruption, emotional distress either vanishes or is greatly improved. We're essentially discharging, or sloughing off, whatever is stuck - feelings, beliefs, behaviors and sometimes even physical symptoms. Scientific research on the efficacy of EFT is mounting and a major study on PTSD was just peer reviewed by Kaiser Permanente. Because the techniques are so simple, they can be used effectively as a self-help tool, which empowers people to actively contribute to their own healing and development process. 

EFT and Reiki work together within the body to create balance by utilizing the active energies created by tapping and the passive opening and clearing, of imbalances, that is fundamental to Reiki. This program will leave you with valuable tools to work through the issue that brought you to treatment and to use as issues come up in the future. You will have a better understanding of how you develop imbalances and how to address and release them.
